Booking Through Thursday...Worst Book Read

Suggested by Janet:
How about, “What’s the worst ‘best’ book you’ve ever read — the one everyone says is so great, but you can’t figure out why?”

I usually read hyped books, and they usually don't quite live up to my expectations, but The Memory Keeper's Daughter wasn't even close. I thought the characters were flat and completely unlikeable. The book seemed drawn out and plodding at times. I thought the premise was good, but the execution didn't work at all for me.

What is the worst 'best' book you've read?

Interesting choice. People are very divided on this book, aren't they?

That's another one I haven't read but sort of have on the wish list. Maybe, I'll just take it off. Thanks for sharing.

I just posted mine here

Now we're even, because I bought this to read this summer! lol I'm sorry if I've changed your view of Out Stealing Horses. I hope you'll still read it - you may feel completely different about it than I did. I've heard alot of mixed reviews on Memory Keepers Daughter.

I haven't read this one (yet). Yours is the first negative mention I've heard of it which I have to say is someone heartening. =)

When I was working at a bookstore, this was one of those books customers were always asking me about and/or raving and/or ranting to me about! Popular opinion does seem very divided :) I haven't read it but don't really plan on it -- I could always catch that made-for-TV movie if I had to! :)

I'm glad I never was tempted to read this one...

My answer this week is rather short...

Never read this one -- saw the Lifetime movie though -- it was terrible.

I thought this one was ok. Didn't really care for the movie.

I'm with you on this one.

I've heard both opinions on this one- it's great, or it's terrible. I'm still curious enough to keep it on my TBR.

Just popping back to say I'm glad it's not just me that couldn't stand Blonde Roots! Thanks for visiting.

Ugh. The Memory Keeper's Daughter. I couldn't even finish it!

It had such an interesting premise, but didn't make the bar that the author set.

I haven't read this one and opinions on it are so divided I'm not sure if I should!

I haven't read that one. It's funny that my choice Outlander is your fave book ever and my worst. Different strokes... :)

I haven't even heard of that book. I guess it's just as well.

I have a rather deep hatred of The Lovely Bones. I read my mothers copy. She hated it too. I also didnt like The Outsiders or My Sisters Keeper or The Host (the aliens are a rip off of Animorphs Yeerks and Star Gates Ga'old but Meyer had to make them all sparkly of course)

*Memory Keeper's Daughter* didn't work for me either!

I didn't write a BTT post this week, but *Three Cups of Tea* is what immediately came to mind. I love the message, and Greg Mortenson is doing amazing work. I found the book to be poorly written, and that kept me from getting really excited about his story. We now have the "for young readers" version and the *Listen to the Wind* picture book, which seem more smoothly written.
