Booking Through Thursday...Worse?

Which is worse?

Finding a book you love and then hating everything else you try by that author, or
Reading a completely disappointing book by an author that you love?

I would definitely say finding a book you love and then hating everything else you try by that author. If you don't like a book or two by a favorite author at least you have the hope that their next book might be great, and the reassurance that you have liked more than one of their books.

If an author only has one book that you love, it's disappointing to keep reading their work and not find anything else that measures up...

Which is worse for you?

Hi Melissa, thanks for visiting my blog! I agree with you it is so disappointing when an author only has one book that you enjoy! I hope you enjoy The Secret History when you get round to it.

I thought it would be easier to deal with loving one book, but hating everything else by the author, simply because you can stop reading the author's book. I thought the second one was harder, especially if the books/series went downhill after that book.

Good choice, cos yes so true, you can be more forgiving of those you love. But an author with only one good book is really disappointing

I'd say the former as well. If an author only has one good book in them, that's terrible. But if a great author writes one bad book, that's forgivable.

Yup, very true, If you don't like one book, there's always another. But the first option is really sad.

I am with you. I would rather read a disappointing novel by my favorite author, then read terrible novel after terrible novel of a promising author.

What matters to me is whether I'll venture into another book of a new author (or new "old" author) if I didn't enjoy the first. It's about building the credit. I do believe in second chances. :)

I'm extra cautious about reading another if the author is not good in my book. At least I wouldn't buy it but borrow it.

Expectation is a huge factor. Once I have liked a book, my expectation mounts. Whether the author is my favorite or not, I'll be bummed out if the book doesn't hit the mark.

Yep, I am more forgiving of a favorite author that has a bad book or two. There is always hope that the next one will be good.

I'm the same way as you are.

When fav author lets me down the sense of betrayal (i take verything too personally) is hard to get over. they may get one second chance but if it's another looser I give up and go back to re-reading the earlier ones. on the other hand I don't mind if a new author lets me down have not 'relatoinship' with 'em so no emotion vested (mercanary aren't I?)

thanks for visiting my blog and I LOVE the name of yours, can't tell you how many times I 've offended my family by saying that :)

although it never makes me hate the author that I love for making bad book but since I don't really care about books from other authors...I choose the second option.

I often read 1 book from 1 author so it's not a big deal when their other books are bad

I think it would be worse for me to read a really disappointing book from an author I normally love. I might not have the fortitude to keep going on in reading their work, and I might truly miss something great.
