Tuesday Thingers!

Favorite bookstores. What's your favorite bookstore? Is it an online store or a bricks-and-mortar store? How often do you go book shopping? Is your favorite bookstore (or bookstores) listed as a favorite in LT? Do you attend events at local bookstores? Do you use LT to find events?

I really don't have a favorite bookstore, but can't resist a Borders or Barnes & Noble if I'm out shopping. I don't usually buy, but will rarely pass up the chance to browse. I get probably 95% of my books from PBS or BM, and will only buy from a bookstore if I have a gift card or there is a sale I can't resist. When I do buy from a book store I am more likely to buy online.

Like you, much of my books come from PBS and BM. However.... I lack the willpower when passing a bookstore! Sale or no sale, gift card on not, I'm in there trying to remember what's on my wishlist that never comes up. ;-)

I do find, however, if I stay away from the mall, I don't go to the bookstore within. (sounds like a tag line for a scary movie "The bookstore within...") :-D

In a way, I think I'm lucky. I've worked retail most of my life, and it's gotten to the point where I'd rather be shot than go shopping. (Sounds drastic, eh?) Staying out of book shops really reduces my spending. I also thought of another reason why I like to shop for books online: my mailbox fills up with treasures. When I was a child, I had pen pals from all over the world, and it was always a highlight of my day to check the mailbox. But...then I grew up (I think), all my pen pals moved ahead with their own lives as well, and my mailbox began the drab habit of filling with bills instead of treasure. After joining PBS, opening the mailbox is like Christmas all over again! LOL

Me, too - I'm more likely to buy online these days. But I still love browsing in the "real" places. Of course, I try never to pay full-price for anything, so I'm always on the prowl for sales and bargain bins!

It's definitely hard to resist B&N and Borders when I'm out, or any place that has books for that matter!

I have a hard time resisting B&N or Borders, but I rarely leave one empty-handed. The whole Book Swap thing is lost on me. I wouldn't be disagreeable to receiving the books; it's idea of having to give up my books where I hit a wall.
