Tuesday Teaser & Another Award!

Tuesday Teaser is hosted by Should Be Reading and asks you to...
1. Grab your current read.
2. Let the book fall open to a random page.
3. Share with us two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page. You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!
4. Please avoid spoilers!

Through the windows, bright red strobe lights flashed across the walls accompanied by a high-pitched wailing. The sound was nagging and accusatory. It was nothing, nothing like a song.

--Bel Canto by Ann Patchett

I'm about halfway through Bel Canto and am struggling with it a bit, and trying to decide if I will finish it or not. I really enjoyed Patchett's other books I've read (Truth & Beauty, The Magician's Assistant), but this one isn't really keeping my attention. If you've read it, did you like it?

Thank you so much for the award, and I apologize for my delay in getting it posted. I have passed this one on already, so this time I will award it to all the blogs who appear in my reader!

I really enjoyed reading it. For some reason, Bel Canto more than any of her other books seems to split people right down the middle.

Interesting...I'll be interested in your final review. A friend recommended this book to me and I had put it on my List. I don't necessarily think she is the best to give recommendations, though, so I will wait for yours!

Now this is one that has been on my shelf for about 4 years, and yet, I have read at least 4 other Ann Patchett books --go figure?

From "Sing them Home" by Stephanie Kallos

Sexual attraction isn't a separate entity for women, something they wall off from the rest of their lives; it arises from and connects to everything. Women carry different things in their heads, when they come to bed. For men--and he's no different, sex is a here-and-now experience. But a woman in bed might be remembering how you quibbled about buying artichoke hearts, forgot to hold the door open, or didn't take the shortcut. They remember everything that happens outside the bedroom and bring it in, even though they don't always know that they're doing it. It's really best to just lay low and do as they ask.

I liked "Bel Canto" much more than "Magicians Assistant" so I'm no help. I loved the interactions between the captives.

I've read mixed reviews about Bel Canto, but it is one do want to read one day. If you do continue with it, I hope it gets better for you!

The only Patchett book I've read is, in fact, "Bel Canto" which I enjoyed a lot. I thought about it for a long time after I finished it. Still, if you're not enjoying it, I'm all for moving on to something that you will. After all, different strokes for different folks, you know? ;)

Blech, I hated Bel Canto and dumped it about 2/3rds of the way through. Enough, already, about the mind-blowing voice of Roxanne!!
